Looking to keep the brooms from coming out again this year, UB softball will match up with Kent State University this weekend at home in a three-game series.
In last year's series between the two teams, the Golden Flashes swept the Bulls (10-14, 1-2 Mid-American Conference).
The Bulls will be playing Kent State (10-12, 2-1 MAC) this Sunday at Nan Harvey Field.
In this season's rematch, the Bulls will rely heavily on the right arm of pitcher Stacey Evans. Evans has proven herself to be the ace for UB, owning a team-leading 2.13 ERA in 15 appearances on the mound.
Breanne Nasti, a mainstay in the UB offensive effort, will be a key factor in run production for the Bulls. Nasti, the current MAC East Player of the Week, is coming off a weekend series at Miami of Ohio in which the senior went 8-14, hitting .571 with a double, a home run and an .857 slugging percentage in five games.
Kent State is coming off a strong weekend in which they took two of three games from Ohio University, establishing their MAC record at 2-1.
The Golden Flashes are led by senior ace Kate Leary. Leary has a 2.16 ERA in 12 appearances for Kent State this season.
KSU has a strong lineup, featuring senior shortstop Marci Ridenbaugh. In 77 at bats this season, Ridenbaugh is batting .338 with seven stolen bases.
The three-game series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday and concludes on Sunday. The games begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The second game of the doubleheader will begin right after the first on Saturday.
