25th Oversight: New Art for City Hall

Live chickens will be clucking and poker will be played on the 25th floor of Buffalo City Hall on Thursday afternoon.

The chickens and the gambling will be part of an exhibit of UB graduate and undergraduate artwork titled "25th Oversight: New Art for City Hall" which will display art specifically designed around the gallery space as part of a course taught by Catherine Kobel.

The course, cross-listed by both the art and media studies departments, has been a semester-long project that allowed 21 students in the art and media study departments to create installation pieces centered on the 25th floor of City Hall. Much of the work is charged with highly political messages about the economic growth of Buffalo, according to Ryan Ettipio, a junior art major with work in the exhibit.

Many of the pieces included in the show explore mixed media, incorporating aspects of digital, computer and performance art.

The exhibit will open to the public on Thursday, April 25 from 4 to 9 p.m. A second showing of the art will be held on Friday, April 26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
