"Two Close Losses Bring Bulls to 0-12 MAC, 5-17 Overall"

Well, they were close.

Last weekend, the women's volleyball team took to the road, and picked up two more losses as they faced Bowling Green University and Central Michigan University.

In their first match, the team was out-played against a superior offense as they fell 3-0 in the match, dropping their games 30-26, 30-28 and 30-24.

The next day, the squad traveled to Central Michigan University, where they faced the last-place Chippewas. Unfortunately, the Bulls lost that contest 3-0 as well, dropping three consecutive games 30-23, 30-23 and 30-22. With the two MAC losses, the team fell to 5-17 overall and remains winless in MAC play with 12 losses.

In their first match, the Bulls played an aggressive Bowling Green team who asserted their offense early, out-hitting the Bulls .248 to .196. The Falcons led the Bulls in all significant scoring categories.

Strong individual performances by sophomores: Becky Ashare and Alexis Bouie, however, helped keep UB competitive. Ashare and Bouie had 12 kills and 10 kills, respectively.

Senior setter Larissa LaCour recorded 36 assists and a match-high 14 digs. Lindsay Matikosh also contributed nine kills and 11 digs.

Freshman Molly Schrantz posted a team-high four blocks while adding six kills and six digs and fellow freshman Katie Henry posted 10 digs and three service aces.

Against the Chippewas, the Bulls were bested by a hard-hitting squad who posted a season-high team hitting percentage of .305.

The Bulls' efforts were headed by Matikosh, who was the only player on the UB squad to reach double figures in her 10 kills. She also recorded a team-high 13 digs.

Henry posted 12 digs, and Ashare ended the night with nine kills on 24 attempts without an error. She also added seven digs and one block. Bouie contributed seven kills to UB's attack.

The UB squad will face Eastern Michigan University this Friday in Alumni Arena at 7 p.m. followed by another home match against Marshall University at 7 p.m. Saturday.
