Giselle soars into Buffalo

The story of a beautiful village girl, combined with a dance that has lived through centuries, came together in downtown Buffalo for the final performance of a renowned local dance company.

(Re)Visioning Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House

Frank Lloyd Wright once said, "There should be as many houses as there are people." Wright believed each person's house should accommodate his or her individual needs, and Wright's ability to incorporate each homeowner's diverse personality into his designs makes him one of the most respected architects in American history. Wright is most famous for designing renowned structures, such as Fallingwater and the Guggenheim Museum, but one of his most beloved works is the Darwin Martin House, located in Buffalo's historic Parkside neighborhood. Led by Edward Steinfeld, a professor of architecture, UB students in the architecture department recently visited Wright's Martin House Complex.

GREYed expectations offers laughs on sex

Some time ago, down a river in Texas, sex educator and comedian Kelly Stone overheard a couple arguing. "Your problem is you've gained weight and lost confidence in yourself," the wife said to her husband. Being a sex educator, Stone couldn't help but wonder if this was an argument about their sex life, so she chimed in with her two cents. The wife, after having read the popular novel 50 Shades of Grey, was inspired to sexually try new things.

Lutoslawski premieres at UB

It could be argued that a composer's work cannot be fully appreciated without understanding the historical context in which it was written or the music belongs to the country just as much as its composer.

A happening in Slee Hall

Frederick Caldecott Slee's legacy at UB is more than just a name on a building. Slee Hall hosts many performances throughout the year, but it is during the Beethoven String Quartet Cycle that Slee's presence is most tangible. The Jupiter String Quartet came to UB's Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall last weekend to perform a series of Beethoven's string quartets. The Slee/Beethoven String Quartet Cycle is one of the longest running concert traditions not just in Buffalo, but the world.

For three nights, comedian Mike Birbiglia tended to the City of Buffalo in the midst of another harsh winter and even bleaker downtown nightlife.

Coming full circle

In 2008, the curtains closed on Studio Arena Theatre and it almost became a parking lot. Last Friday, Buffalo's theater scene came back to life with the Road Less Traveled's production of Annie Baker's hilarious Circle Mirror Transformation. Formerly known as Studio Arena, 710 Main St.
