A brilliant farewell

Slee Hall was filled with applause and cheers Friday night after the UB Symphony Orchestra performed its last piece under conductor Magnus Martensson.The Department of Music presented the UB Symphony's performance with Christian Baldini as a guest conductor, Richard English on piano and Charles Smith as the narrator for the finale act, "Peter and the Wolf."Baldini was notably energetic during the first part of the night's program, which began with "Carmen Suite no.

On her latest release entitled "The Brightness," singer and songwriter Anais Mitchell delivers a melancholy presentation, but ironically falls short of a shining performance.Despite sounding very similar to Alanis Morissette, Mitchell's voice doesn't carry the same charm and strength that made Morissette successful.

Though many Christian rock bands haven't been known as the hippest kids on the block, Skillet still offers listeners plenty of sizzling songs to rock out with their new album "Comatose."The powerful vocals ringing from the husband and wife duo John and Korey Cooper, the impressive guitar riffs by Ben Kasica and percussion by Lori Peters make for a solid release.
