This week the team checks out housing violations in the latest Housing Blitz near South Campus, a student who uses beauty pageants to get out the message of skin cancer awareness and the women's soccer's team continued winnig streak in their lastest playoff game.


Mckenzie White is a junior goalkeeper for the women’s soccer team. She has sat the last two seasons out due to leg complications she’s had since birth. But the persistent athlete is determined to compete again once she recovers from her latest surgery.

Protecting her goal

Mckenzie White is wearing shorts. It's warm for October - at least 65 degrees. And White, well aware of the looming harsh chill of a Buffalo winter, is embracing the last few days she can dress like it's still summer. This soccer player's got a new leg to show off. At any point last year - even if it were 90 degrees - she'd be wearing sweatpants to hide her legs.

Quick Hits: Catching up with men's and women's soccer

Women's soccer On Wednesday night, the women's soccer team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 2-1 loss to Big Four rival Niagara (1-7-1). The Bulls' (3-2-2) streak of not allowing a goal in the last 449 minutes of play was snapped in the 27th minute of the first half, when Niagara'sBreanna Cativpovic beat senior goalkeeper Ainsley Wheldon to give her team a 1-0 lead. The streak was the third longest in team history and the longest since 2008. The Bulls have a 10-day layover before they begin their conference season.

Women's soccer The Bulls (2-1-1) have allowed just one goal in their previous three games and have gone 2-0-1 since losing their season opener to Michigan State.

We must protect this house

When the men's basketball team hosted North Carolina in Reggie Witherspoon's first game as head coach, Alumni Arena was at full capacity. In attendance that night was future standout point guard Byron Mulkey, who would make that same arena his stage from 2006-11. Mulkey grew up in the area and remembers that night as being a particularly energizing night, and when he took the floor for the first time, he recalled that energy. "Finally being on the other end of it, where I am the one coming on the court and about to perform, it was kind of me coming full circle," Mulkey said.

It's been a rough season so far for the women's soccer team, and Friday night may have been the team's worse loss of the season - on the scoreboard and on its roster.
