Women’s soccer was crowned MAC champions last fall and appears poised to repeat that success this season following a victory over Ohio State.
As another year of UB athletics wraps up, these are four moments and milestones that stand out across all sports.
Women’s soccer (15-2-4, 7-0-4 MAC) lost at Pittsburgh (13-4-3, 5-3-2 ACC) 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday evening.
Women's soccer won the MAC Championship after defeating Ball State last Sunday. The Bulls will face No. 4 seed Pittsburgh in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
Women’s soccer (13-1-4, 7-0-4 MAC) defeated Kent State (4-7-7, 4-2-5 MAC) 2-0 to claim the Mid-American Conference regular season title Thursday.
The introduction of a mindfulness coach and a balance of youth and experience has turned women's soccer into the favorites to win the MAC.
Women’s soccer (12-1-4, 6-0-4 MAC) secured a spot in the Mid-American Conference tournament after defeating Central Michigan, 2-1, at UB Stadium on Thursday. UB then tied against Ball State on Saturday, which brought the Bulls to a 14-game unbeaten streak, tying the record-breaking 2014 UB team.
UB women’s soccer (11-1-3, 5-0-3 MAC) continues to find ways to avoid losing in conference play.
Women’s soccer (10-1-2, 4-0-1 MAC) defeated Eastern Michigan, 3-0, on Sunday at UB Stadium.
Sunday’s win marked not only UB’s sixth win in a row but its sixth straight shutout. The Bulls haven’t allowed a goal since Aug. 28 against then-No. 3 ranked Rutgers.
Women’s soccer (5-1-0) picked up its third straight win in a 2-0 shutout over Colgate Sunday at UB Stadium.

Women’s soccer (10-3-2, 4-2-2 MAC) defeated Western Michigan (4-11-0, 2-6-0 MAC), 4-3, in a thriller Thursday night at UB Stadium. UB then traveled to Dekalb, IL Sunday afternoon, where they tied Northern Illinois (4-10-2, 1-5-2 MAC), 1-1, in a wild double-overtime match.
Seven minutes into overtime, junior Ohio Bobcats midfielder Alivia Milesky cut inside to pass senior Buffalo defender Gurjeena Jandu. Milesky faked a shot as freshman goalkeeper Emily Kelly dove in front. Milesky easily dribbled around her to shoot the ball into the empty net and defeat the Bulls 2-1 in overtime. The Bulls soccer team (9-4, 3-3 Mid-American Conference) was defeated by the Ohio Bobcats (5-5-3, 3-1-2 MAC) 2-1 Sunday afternoon. The Bulls led for the first 87 minutes before Ohio was finally able to get a goal past Kelly. Buffalo was unable to keep up its offensive pressure without senior forward Carissima Cutrona and eventually crumbled for its first home loss of the season.
The Bulls have gone goalless and 0-2-1 over the past three Sunday games. With the final five games of the conference season ahead, it is up to the Bulls to fix their issues if they hope to have home field for the MAC championship playoffs.
For a team that has begun a winning tradition the past two seasons, the Buffalo women’s soccer team has some minor rebuilding that needs to be done before next season. The Bulls are losing six players, with starting defenders Jackie Hall and Kristin Markiewicz and leading scorer Kassidy Kidd graduating and Brianna Shingary, a rising star in the program, transferring to Pittsburgh.
Following last year’s men’s soccer trip to England, the women’s squad now has its opportunity to travel overseas. The Bulls will travel to three cities – Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid – during their seven-day trip to Spain during UB’s upcoming spring break.
On Thursday, head coach Shawn Burke announced his four-player class, three of whom are from New York and one from Ontario, for the 2016 season. The Bulls added Kara Daly, a forward from nearby Orchard Park, Mairead Martin of Mahopac, New York, Adrianna Van Cuyck, a midfielder from Walworth, New York and Gurjeena Jandu, a defender from Mississauga, Ontario.
