What should have been a beautiful Monday was marred by many things - tracking down friends in Boston, watching news coverage and having my morning framed by an offensive form of free speech.
"I want @drake to murder my vagina." - Guess who? Amanda Bynes, the weird, quirky-yet-loveable child actress most known for being a cast member of Nickelodeon's legendary show All That, has recently been acting more "different" than usual.
When the recession hit, many high school graduates became convinced that going to college was a better option than trying their luck at entering a lackluster job market. Recent college enrollment rates released by the Department of Labor, however, suggest this tendency has been shifting.
Abortion. Let's be clear: whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, abortion is not regarded as a positive experience, it is not enjoyable or looked forward to, and it is not, not, not an easy decision to make. Which is why I am so appalled at the University at Buffalo, a college I was moments ago proud to be a part of, for allowing the AbortionNO organization to park and display their horrific photographs in front of the Student Union on Monday, April 15. For those of you who missed the Technicolor nightmare, AbortionNO began by parking a large truck across from Starbucks, plastered with a full-color picture of a third-trimester aborted fetus.
On Monday, my views on abortion were genuinely challenged for the first time. I have always supported a woman's right to choose.
When UB Students for Life collaborated with the Genocide Awareness Project (GAP) to bring its photomural exhibit to North Campus, displaying difficult photos of abortion images, the club was acting well within its First Amendment Rights.
Dear Spectrum: We are writing to condemn the message of the anti-abortion protest that took place outside the Commons this week.
On Wednesday, the Investigative Post, a non-profit investigative reporting center in Buffalo, released data from a 2011 survey that revealed 90 percent of Buffalo high school students did not attend physical education classes daily - 36 percent higher than the national average. Students in kindergarten through third grade are only getting physical education once every six days, according to the survey, and there isn't a comprehensive health education program throughout the Buffalo Public School District. All children in grades K-3 must take part in a phys-ed class on a daily basis, and grades 4-12 must have gym class at least three times a week, according to the New York State Department of Education.
Blame the "yes" men. Blame Rocko. Blame feminists. But God forbid you blame Rick Ross.
On Wednesday, Senators Joe Manchin III, D-W.Va., and Patrick J. Toomey, R-Pa., announced an agreement has been reached among Democrats and Republicans in the Senate on a bill that expands backgrounds checks for gun buyers.
The Pentagon issued on Thursday, for its first time, intelligence that deemed North Korea's nuclear capability has reached a new and higher level. It believes North Korea has established how to develop a nuclear weapon that can be delivered by a ballistic missile.
It's about that time of the year when everybody is getting sick of each other. Sure, you're roommate's passion for dubstep was acceptable at first - you even grew to enjoy it.
This week, the effort to revitalize downtown Buffalo gained momentum as the insertion of a new 21-acre park has been added to the agenda of development projects near the Outer Harbor.
This week, the effort to revitalize downtown Buffalo gained momentum as the insertion of a new 21-acre park has been added to the agenda of development projects near the Outer Harbor. The park will have trails, bridges and gazebos.
The one-and-done rule has made college basketball suffer long enough. Louisville's win on Monday night is proof: It's time for a change. The Cardinals won the title thanks to the depth and experience amongst their best players; three of their top four players are juniors and one is a senior.
There is no question that Mike Rice's behavior was inexcusable. He berated players in a manner that the NCAA and a university and athletic director should not tolerate.
On Friday, April 5, a federal judge ordered the morning-after pill be made available over the counter for girls of all ages - putting an end to age restrictions on the accessibility of emergency contraception. We believe there should not be restricted access to emergency contraception, regardless of any politics.
At the beginning of each semester, when you unload your wallet of that $94.75 for a mandatory student activity fee, you hope come the end of that semester you can look back with a sense of satisfaction.
The Obama administration recently began an effort to encourage banks to grant home loans to people with weaker credit.
Who would have thought that a season that seemed to mean so little - a lack of stability in 'elite' teams near the top of the rankings, an insanely weak draft class with no glaring superstar - would produce a Final Four that is so intriguing? Seventy-five percent of the teams left in the tourney have captivating story lines.
