Men's Soccer MAC Quarterfinal Preview

Words cannot accurately portray the feeling of winning a championship in a sport. All those hours of grueling practice, all those hard-fought games, playing through injuries and inclement weather, all become worth it in the end when the players stand there on the field, holding that trophy high, rejoicing with their teammates. The UB men's soccer team was not able to experience this joyful sensation last year after a demoralizing first round loss to Bowling Green 1-0 in triple over-time.

Porter Quad Renovations Inconvenience Students

With the Buffalo snow about to pile up, some students in the Ellicott Complex are getting ready to bundle up - to do their laundry. This semester, many students in Porter Quadrangle are cut off from laundry facilities and tunnel access to other buildings, due to construction on the ground floors of buildings 1, 2, 3 and 7, forcing them to detour across the terrace to carry out day-to-day activities. The Porter renovations are taking place to give way to the new Student/Parent Response Center, where students and parents will be able to receive information on registering for classes, student records, financial aid, billing and academic advisement."(The center) allowed us to bring together all the organizations and areas together in a tight net," Sullivan said.

Around the MAC

It became known as "upset Saturday" and while it is likely that national TV reporters were not thinking about the Mid-American Conference when they coined the phrase, lowly Akron did their best to make sure the conference went with the flow. The Zips, winless in the conference coming into Saturday's contest, stunned the conference's perennial powerhouse the Marshall Thundering Herd with a 34-20 home win at the Rubber Bowl.

Tragedy Strikes Bowling Green Women's Soccer Team

Leslie Dawley, 18, a true freshman forward/midfielder for the Bowling Green women's soccer team, suffered a seizure five minutes into her team's MAC quarterfinal game Tuesday afternoon at Cochrane Field in Bowling Green, Ohio, against the UB Bulls, and later passed away.Dawley, who was standing away from the play at midfield while UB was attempting a corner kick deep in Bowling Green territory, collapsed face down on the field and was rushed by stretcher to a waiting ambulance and taken to a nearby medical facility.

"After Lengthy Debate, Assembly Approves Senate Nominations"

After a healthy debate last night, the Student Association Assembly confirmed, 33-8, SA President Christian Oliver's appointments to the SA Senate, which were postponed last week due to concerns over fair representation for UB students and Oliver's influence over future senators. The SA Assembly also created a committee to examine the SA constitution and possibly suggest an amendment that would modify the power of appointment given to the SA president, who currently has the responsibility of replacing senators in the event of vacancies.Controversy first arose when Michael Goggin and Adam Baviford, who were elected to the Senate in September's open elections, voluntarily resigned at Oliver's request due to a perceived conflict of interest.Since Oliver had previously appointed Goggin and Baviford to paying jobs within SA, the Student Wide Judiciary issued a non-binding decision stating the president was in a position to influence the two senators."The court found that anyone within the executive branch that was appointed by the president for employment would present a conflict of interest if they were also a member of the Senate," Oliver said. Most of the debate centered on the appointment of Haynes instead of Stefanie A.
