Men's Soccer

Hopes were high as the University of Buffalo's men's soccer team headed to Huntington, W.Va. for their MAC Tournament quarterfinal match with the Kentucky Wildcats.Buffalo had defeated the heralded Wildcats by a score of 2-1 earlier in the season, giving the Bulls a reason to believe they could pull this one out.Unfortunately for UB, hopes and everything else came crashing down to the ground as they were bludgeoned by a score of 4-1.Early in the first half, in the ninth minute of play, Wildcat Craig Pykett shot the ball 50 yards downfield to forward Chris McDaniel, who chipped the ball over UB goalkeeper Brian Wozniak for the 1-0 Kentucky lead.

Island of Confusion

The Irish Classical Theatre Company is typically known for its high-quality productions. Although "The Island," by Athol Fugard, is not the most inspirational or captivating script to grace the stage at the Andrews Theatre, the quality of each individual component of the performance is singular in its meticulous devotion to recreating the atmosphere of a South African prison during apartheid.Directed by Jerry Pooe, "The Island" opens with two prisoners hard at work.

Around the MAC

Filling in for the injured Byron Leftwich, Stan Hill occupied the role as Marshall Thundering Herd quarterback admirably on Tuesday night against the Miami of Ohio RedHawks.Hill led the Herd to a 34-32 victory while throwing for 292 yards and four touchdowns and he ran in the game winning score with five seconds remaining in the game.Marshall was given a second chance when an extremely questionable pass interference call was made on fourth down in the endzone giving MU a first down and goal.

CD Review

***1/2 out of 5 starsIt's been three years since David Gray's last album, "White Ladder," but his sixth studio release, "A New Day at Midnight," is his strongest effort yet.Insanely popular in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the Manchester-born artist managed to produce this highly anticipated follow up album while remaining true to the sound and structure that kept him on the chart for 175 weeks in Ireland - everything that made "White Ladder" the best-selling, non-compilation album of all time in that country. The album's opening track "Dead in the Water" sets the tone for the remainder of the album, which is consistent with what fans have come to expect from the artist: easy- listening music.

Book Review

When dinner and a movie sounds dull, those seeking more adventurous dates may look for a comprehensive guide to various out-of-the-norm activities, as well as tips for improved traditional dates. The authors of "Guide to Great Dates," Paul Joannides and Toni Johnson, have created a fairly comprehensive answer to the eternal question asked by friends, lovers and colleagues across the globe: "What do you want to do?"Although this book clearly has a fairly low production value and has more than a few glaring grammatical errors, it is a fun and interesting reference for those looking for a fun night out. Many of the suggestions for dates listed are obvious, but the guide luckily proves its relevance by including information on how much a date will cost and what is needed before the date, as well as a compilation of Internet resources that will assist daters in helping the date run smoothly. The book highlights less traditional prospective dates, such as sitting in on a murder trial, brewing your own beer, going to a corn maze, and building a sandcastle. These dates suggested in the "Guide to Great Dates" are innovative and fun, but many others are traditional, obvious dates with additional background information."Guide to Great Dates" also includes pros and cons to traditional options for dates, such as "Doing a Dinner Date at Home":"It is seriously a bad idea to invite someone to your home for dinner if it's your first date.
