Bare Bottoms and Beef in Chinese Art

Using his naked body as an artistic medium, contemporary Chinese artist Zhang Huan gave UB students some insight into how he interprets the world during a lecture Monday night.As part of the Visual Studies Speakers Series, co-sponsored by the departments of media study and art, Zhang lectured to students using video, live performance, photography slides and sculpture.

The sound of dancing feet and the scents of popcorn, cotton candy and spicy food wafted through the Student Union lobby on Wednesday at the eighth annual Latino Bazaar.The theme of the event changes from year to year and has its origins in students' desire to increase cultural awareness around campus, according to Student Life Coordinator Vicki Sapp.

Students Seek Ways to Combat Redlining in America

Students found no easy answers Tuesday on the issue of loan and housing discrimination when Alpha Beta Sigma Sorority and the Minority Management Society presented a discussion entitled "Color Coding a Nation" in the Student Union.Redlining - the practice of denying home loans to people in certain urban neighborhoods - and racial prejudice in corporate America were discussed by a lively group of mostly minority students.Khadijah Tillman, Alpha Beta Sigma's vice president, detailed how redlining resulted from a program designed to make securing a mortgage and home ownership easier during the Great Depression.The federal government under President Franklin D.
