Bulls Split Matinee Doubleheader

With winter finally out the door, this year's Buffalo Bulls softball team is heating up, and it could not have come at a better time.After taking two of three from Akron last weekend, Buffalo hoped to take that momentum into yesterday's doubleheader against the resurgent Bowling Green Falcons (18-21, 5-5 Mid-American Conference).Buffalo (13-15, 4-4 MAC) took the opener 1-0 behind a solid performance by junior hurler Stacey Evans who was backed up by an impressive defense.

I would merely be his intellectual mistress.So while most women my age are drooling over the latest model on the Abercrombie bag, I am busy defending the love of my life against misplaced attacks that he should not be in the presidential race.To begin, these pointed attacks have criticized Nader for being a selfish, egomaniacal man who is out to cost the Democrats the election again.

UB Professor Develops Material to Inhibit Cell Phone Use

Ten years ago when Deborah Chung began her research on radio frequency and radiation shielding for electronics, the term "cell phone etiquette" had not yet been coined.But now cell phones are everywhere, they are ringing everywhere, and people are answering them and talking on them everywhere.Chung, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and a Niagara Mohawk Chair Professor of Materials Research at UB, is now developing her radio frequency materials for the purpose of blocking cell phone use in buildings.Chung said her blocking materials could be used in any building where people want to prohibit cell phone use while still leaving the building structurally sound.

Head of Miramax Studios Establishes UB Scholarship

Legendary film producer and UB alumnus Harvey Weinstein donated $50,000 to a scholarship fund for minority students from New York State applying for UB's master's degree program in film and performance.Weinstein attended UB from 1969 to 1973 as an English major but did not complete a degree.

'Rainering' on Coheed and Cambria's Parade

The rock genre "emo" has almost become a curse word in the independent music world.Emo, stemming from the original definition "emotional hardcore," originated in the mid-1990s from the "mellowing out" of hardcore bands and has swelled since to classify everything from Jimmy Eat World to the corporate-branded A Simple Plan.No wonder emo fans are boiling beneath their black-rimmed glasses.So it was a breath of relief for emo fans in Western New York as Coheed and Cambria, Rainer Maria, Funeral for a Friend and Brazil electrified a distinctly horn-rimmed crowd Friday at The Sphere Entertainment Complex.While The Sphere may not have been the best venue - the horseshoe shaped two-tier structure allowed very few people a good view of the stage - the sold-out crowd didn't seem to mind.The highlights of the show came earlier than expected, however, as Rainer Maria performed a short but tight set.

Governors Dining Hall Vandalized

The Governors dining hall was vandalized late Sunday night by unknown persons who smashed four door windows at the entrance and a large exterior window.The damage, which exceeded $2,000, was repaired Monday, officials said.According to Kevin Ahuna, senior staff associate for University Residence Halls, a decision is pending on who will pay for the vandalism.
