New Complex Slated For Sweet Home Road

A new off-campus apartment complex designed for UB students is one step closer to reality.Thursday night, the Town of Amherst's planning board approved a re-zone of 10 acres of land across from Sweet Home High School for a complex, which will house 828 students.American Campus Communities, the same company that built both Hadley and Flint Villages, will be developing the property.

Buffalo isn't exactly the most cooperative city for a collegiate outdoor track program. The notoriously bad weather sometimes forces UB's track and field athletes to train in some of the worst weather around and it makes the team look elsewhere for meets and competitions.In fact, the team has spent almost every weekend since mid-March on the road and will continue to do so through mid-May.

Phi Beta Kappa Announces New Class

The cream of UB's academic crop received some good news last week - announcement of their induction into UB's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest academic honor society.The liberal arts honors society, which many consider the most prestigious in the United States, will hold official inductions May 7 at Slee Concert Hall.Only the best and brightest of UB's students are elected into the honor society, according to Barbara Bono, president of UB's chapter."Phi Beta Kappa typically inducts seniors, and we offer selective advanced admittance to very qualified juniors," said Bono.

After 10 years of public familiarity with search engines, the popular roles are being expanded to include a series of new functions that may have widespread appeal.An emerging trend is the act of self-Googling, or typing one's name into a search engine, usually the popular search engine Google, and using the results of the search as a form of cyber mirror.Daniel Ohanlon, a junior urban planning and public policy major, said a good way to pass the time is to roll the Google dice and see what it produces."I search my name in Google.
