Activists Face Chilly Night

UB's Community Action Corps got a taste of the chilly winter nights facing Buffalo's homeless residents Saturday when they spent the night in the courtyard behind the Student Union.The group's Night Out to Fight Homelessness, co-sponsored by Circle K, raised about $400 while challenging students to camp out in the 40-degree weather for 12 hours with only their warm clothing and cardboard boxes."I see a lot of people caring about the cause, and I see a lot of people being enthusiastic.

Men's Soccer Blanked In Weekend Games

The UB men's soccer team opened the Mid-American Conference portion of their 2004 schedule with two losses this weekend.The Bulls (6-4-1, 0-1 MAC) lost to Akron and Kentucky the weekend after a hazing incident that caused four practices to be cancelled, three players to be suspended, and one player to be hospitalized.Without the services of Braden Byler, their leading goal scorer, the Bulls were shut out 1-0 by Akron.

The women's soccer team was denied once again on the road this weekend, losing Friday in a non-conference match to the Niagara Purple Eagles by a score of 3-1.On a positive note, the Bulls (3-9-0 overall, 2-4 Mid-American Conference) broke their goal-less streak of almost three whole games (3:20.45) when freshman Heidi Griffiths capitalized on a Jenny Dannecker assist in the 88th minute of regulation.With the assist, Dannecker extended her points total on the season to eight, which leads the Bulls."Jenny is stepping up as one of the senior leaders on the team," said Bulls' coach Jean Tassy.

My housemates and I often joke that our house is the mini-union of Africa and Europe. We have thermostat wars in the wee hours of the morning because the two who live on the east side of the house are always too hot, while the two who live on the west side can never have it warm enough.It just so happens that the two of us who want the house to be incessantly toasty are black - we live in the African wing - and the other two housemates are white and inhabit the European wing.There is no political correctness in our "Europica."
