Weeping for the wrong reasons

The thought of comic strips brings to mind series like "Peanuts," "Garfield" and "Dilbert." The titles of these staples in the comic industry describe their theme in a straightforward and hassle-free manner."Read It and Weep," a new comic by Travis Dandro, does inspire tears, but not for the same reason that the creator intended.Featuring nothing more than a little boy and a squirrel, the comic is deficient in both artistic talent and action.

Little-known Holocaust trial reawakens painful history

Everyone has heard about Nuremburg, where the notorious trials of Nazi war criminals like Goering and Frick occurred, but few recall the war crimes trial at Dachau, where interviews with concentration camp survivors were just as terrible.The UB law community got a taste of upholding justice at its grizzliest on Monday, as the law school filled with people to see and discuss "Justice at Dachau: The Trials of an American Prosecutor" presented by Joshua M.

The warnings are over: police crack down hard on Heights parties

In what seems like a yearly ritual, the Buffalo Police have busted a rising number of parties in University Heights the past few weeks, and UB officials say more is in store for students who don't keep their parties legal and quiet.This weekend alone, 10 UB students were arrested in the most recent crackdown by Buffalo Police in the Heights.

We roll what we like

In Keita Takahashi's 2004 release "Katamari Damacy," the world watched as the spandex tights-clad King of All Cosmos drunkenly smashed about the universe, dislocating stars and ordering his heir to roll it all back up.Now, "We Love Katamari" celebrates the profound impact the little ball of love had on the world, and provides more of what the original fans loved with new worlds, extended play and new multi-player options.The "Love" sequel has the same set-up as the original masterpiece: you, the Prince, have to roll up the world by collecting items on your Katamari ball, usually within a certain timeframe.

Students help start concert series

A respected professor, a gifted musician and an ambitious student are joining forces to help develop the hip-hop scene in Buffalo, from within UB's walls.This Thursday night, The Icon will host the first show in a series of rap shows entitled the Throwback Series that features rap stars old, new, well-established and emerging.

Young runners given chance at Penn

The UB men's and women's cross country teams finished in the middle of the pack last weekend at the Spiked Shoe Invitational, held at Penn State University.In a meet that hosted 17 men's teams and 16 women's teams, UB finished 10th and seventh respectively, tallying 216 points for the men and 169 points for the women.With only five Division I teams at Saturday's competition, the Bulls opted to give their top athletes a break, presenting the teams' youth with the opportunity to step up and showcase their talents.Host team Penn State won the men's 5.2-mile race with 39 points.

Cab company shorts Campus Cash fare

In the wee morning hours on any given weekend in the University Heights, throngs of Ellicott, Governors and campus apartment residents line the streets in front of every bar and restaurant with one goal in mind - getting back to North Campus.At a time in the evening when many people are either too exhausted or otherwise incapacitated to make major decisions, one safety net for that necessary ride home used to be an easy choice - paying for a Liberty Cab with Campus Cash, a taxable debit account that can be pre-paid onto a UB Card.Liberty Cab, one of the larger taxi services in the city of Buffalo, used to accept Campus Cash.

Students and officials deal with a goose of a problem

To many people, geese are harmless and nothing more than a nuisance at most, but for a number of students, the growing number of geese at UB has become a problem that interrupts daily life.Lou Schmitt, director of facilities operations, said he doesn't feel the geese are a danger, but it is a problem that they walk in clusters and inhibit the flow of traffic.Plus, there is the possibility that the geese droppings could create a health threat.
