Bulls trip over own feet in loss

You can slow down the giant, but you still have to score.Bowling Green quarterback and Heisman trophy candidate Omar Jacobs was intercepted twice for the first time in his career on Saturday at UB Stadium, but Jacobs and the Falcons still managed to defeat the Bulls 27-7.The UB defense was a formidable force that kept Jacobs in check all game, even though some sportswriters predicted Bowling Green would pin as many as 60 points on the Bulls (0-6 overall, 0-3 Mid-American Conference).Sophomore safety Jesse Imes made a great break on the ball and came away with an interception on Bowling Green's second drive of the game.

Students toy with chemistry

UB's chemistry majors are out to prove this week that no one plays around like chemistry students do.With "The Joy of Toys," the theme for this year's National Chemistry Week, UB students are hoping to inspire a few future chemistry majors of their own, giving demonstrations of magic writing, making slime, and sailing soap-powered boats at local schools, community centers and scout troops throughout the week.As experts bemoan declining interest in the sciences in the United States, events like chemistry week are trying to recapture that spark.

'Wallace' near flawless

New-age animated films have the unusual ability to appeal to audiences of any age. "Shrek," "Chicken Run" and "Finding Nemo" are all films that had the strange capacity to equally entertain parents, kids, teenagers and college students."Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" follows suit. The film is the fourth installment of the "Wallace and Gromit" series, but is the first to be a full-length motion picture. The story follows the cheese-loving technophile Wallace (Peter Sallis) and his more reasonable partner Gromit the dog as they try to protect the town vegetables from pesky rabbits in the days leading up to the 500th annual Giant Vegetable competition. It's packed with goofy humor for children, along with a few subtle jokes and references to keep older viewers smiling.Directors Steve Box and Nick Park have a real knack for animated humor.

"Two games won, a star lost"

Two conference victories in one weekend is a feat that any team should celebrate without hesitation.Losing a key player in one of those games puts a damper on the bliss. The UB men's soccer team hosted Mid-American Conference games Friday and Sunday at UB Stadium and during Friday's 4-0 defeat of Bowling Green, sophomore forward Lee Catchpole went down with a head injury after a collision and did not suit up for Sunday's 1-0 victory over Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne.Catchpole's condition and possible return could not be confirmed by head coach John Astudillo following Sunday's game."I don't know when he will be back until he sees a specialist (Monday) morning at 10 a.m.," Astudillo said.
