Softball team unable to match Eagles

Small-ball and defense were the difference in this weekend's softball games. Unable to pull off a victory against Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan, the softball team fell on Saturday 9-1.

Comp fee to push over $800

The cost of attending UB will rise next year regardless of state tuition if a proposal to increase the undergrad comprehensive fee is passed in an upcoming administrative decision.UB officials have proposed a 3.5 percent increase to the fee for the 2006-07 school year, which would add $30 to bill paid each semester by undergraduates.Right now, the fee is the $779.25.

Vibrations never felt so good

The opportunity to see someone who is the world's best anything is a rarity. But brace yourself, because this Saturday is your chance to see musical all-star Bill Molenhof.Molenhof, who is regarded as the best vibraphonist on planet Earth, will be coming all the way from Germany in order to perform on Saturday at Cardinal O'Hara High School in Tonawanda as part of the "Western New York Day of Percussion," which is hosted by the UB Marching Band.The vibraphone is a close evolutionary relative of the xylophone but this percussion instrument utilizes more components."The vibraphone is quite flexible and can work well in most situations," Molenhof said in an interview with The Spectrum.

"Grade, rinse, repeat: policy change would count both scores for re-taken classes"

For students re-taking classes in which they failed or simply wanted to do better, UB's grading policies have been a saving grace: both grades show up on your transcript, but only the latter in your GPA.On Tuesday, a faculty committee proposed wide-ranging revisions to grading guidelines that could, among other things, change how GPAs are calculated for repeated classes.The reforms are part of an effort from the Faculty Senate Executive Committee to improve UB's grading policies.
