Tennis builds momentum for playoffs

The way men's tennis coach Russ Crispell saw it, "The Easter bunny came early." It certainly appeared that way over the holiday weekend as Bulls tennis swept their matches and brought their current winning streak to three games.Buffalo started off last Friday with a victory over Northern Illinois, 4-3, which was the first win for the team in Mid-American Conference play."We played the match of our lives.

Softball team unable to match Eagles

Small-ball and defense were the difference in this weekend's softball games. Unable to pull off a victory against Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan, the softball team fell on Saturday 9-1.

Tennis unable to match strong MAC teams

Heading into what men's tennis coach Russ Crispell called "the heart" of the Mid-American Conference schedule, the Bulls looked to strengthen their position within the MAC but lost both their matches last weekend.On Saturday, the Bulls men's tennis team headed to Muncie's Cardinal Creek Tennis Center to face a strong Ball State team that was able to easily dispose of the Bulls by winning a 7-0 decision."MAC tennis is on the upswing.

Bulls escape scoring funk

Sometimes getting back to basics is just what the doctor ordered, especially for a team that had piled up a mere nine hits and no runs in the last three games.All that changed Wednesday, when the baseball team scored 11 runs to win its game against the Canisius Golden Griffins, 11-3."I'd like to take credit for getting the hitters out of their slumps, but we just told them after that long weekend to get back to basics and swing at pitches in their zone," said head baseball coach Bill Breene.From the outset, the players showed that they value the advice of their coach highly.

Swimmers finish last out of 5

Thursday morning, when the men's swimming and diving team embarked on its journey to Akron, Ohio, for the conference championships, there was little doubt that the meet to which it was headed would be a grueling three-day marathon."Doing well at the ECAC Championships took the anxiety out of going to the (Mid-American Conference) championships, and we were able to go in with a mental edge," said head coach Budd Termin.Emerging from the season's end, the Bulls finished fifth out of five behind perennial powerhouse Eastern Michigan, and rivals Miami (Ohio), Ball State, and Ohio.The team's opening day at the Ohio Aquatic Center was one with few bright spots for the Bulls.

"Bobcats win with ease, Idbihi hits milestone"

With over 4,000 fans hooting and hollering behind them, the Ohio Bobcats outplayed the Buffalo Bulls 85-72 on Wednesday and placed the Bulls in a deeper hole for the upcoming conference playoffs.The loss denied Buffalo its second win of the season against rival Ohio and left their record at a winless 0-7 at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio.Ohio started the game strong, with an intensity that the Bulls were unable to match.

Grapplers drop conference match at Kent State

Forfeits at 125 pounds have become a regular thing for the wrestling team. The match on Friday against Kent State was no exception, and the Bulls lost 21-13.Buffalo has been unable to fill the hole in their line-up in five of their last six Division I match-ups, automatically giving up six team points and creating a pre-match hole for the team.Friday's meet started out well for the Bulls.
