Rob Schneider delivers a more wholesome performance than we have seen from him in the past with his family comedy "The Benchwarmers." The movie manages to be funny, without being filled with the same offensive d*ck jokes that we are used to seeing from him.Let's just say it is more "50 First Dates" than it is "Deuce Bigalow.""The Benchwarmers" tells the story of three underachievers who have grown up resenting the fact that they never played organized baseball.

There's a fine line between justified activism and glorified protesting, and students on the UB campus are dangerously close to crossing it.Early Tuesday afternoon, a rowdy, boisterous group of students congregated in front of the Student Union to support something they felt very strongly about.

"For seniors, Gala marks the last big party"

For graduating seniors, the UB Spring Gala is a little more bittersweet than it is for underclassmen enjoying just another night of fun, dinner and dancing.For them, Saturday marks the end of the road, the last big party before commencement."It's kind of sad because I'm a senior and I'll probably never go to a formal event like this again," Priyanka Giri, a senior finance and marketing major, said.While Gala may just seem like another formal function, in the end, it represents a lot more to students."Yeah, there will be Christmas parties and birthdays and weddings to go to, and you shake hands with a lot of people," Kate Crooks, a senior psychology major, said.

Towne film bites the 'Dust'

Colin Farrell has made some interesting acting choices, to say the least, between "Alexander" and "Daredevil." His latest cinematic endeavor, "Ask the Dust," is no exception.Set in Los Angeles during the 1930s, director Robert Towne has adapted the John Fante novel of the same name.

Naughty nurse stereotype hurts women

I do understand that the April 3 issue of The Spectrum is an April Fool's issue and a joke. Naughty nurse images are rarely serious ("Medicine taken orally"). No one seriously thinks that nurses go to their jobs dressed in lingerie and have sex with their patients.

Professor makes noise among hearing researchers

February was an exciting time for a remarkable UB professor from the department of communicative disorders and sciences, one whose love for teaching equals his aptitude in the lab.Donald Henderson recently received the 2006 Outstanding Hearing Conservation Award from the National Hearing Conservation Association at its annual conference in Tampa, Fla.Although Henderson was initially interested in doing research as a graduate student at the University of Texas, he realized his desire to share information when he had the opportunity to teach a class in Physiological Psychology.

Tennis unable to match strong MAC teams

Heading into what men's tennis coach Russ Crispell called "the heart" of the Mid-American Conference schedule, the Bulls looked to strengthen their position within the MAC but lost both their matches last weekend.On Saturday, the Bulls men's tennis team headed to Muncie's Cardinal Creek Tennis Center to face a strong Ball State team that was able to easily dispose of the Bulls by winning a 7-0 decision."MAC tennis is on the upswing.
