School of management receives $50k grant

Students and faculty will be treated to lectures by prestigious speakers through the School of Management this year, thanks to a $50,000 donation to by brothers Gerald Sufrin, chair of the Department of Urology, and Leslie Sufrin, C.P.A.The gift was given under the title of the Helen and Oscar Sufrin Endowed Lectureship, named for the brothers' late parents.

Mandatory student activity fee passes in a landslide

After three days of voting in the Student Union, the referendum mandating the $80 Student Association activity fee passed by over 1,900 votes, ensuring SA funds from the entire undergraduate population for another two years.With only 250 votes against the fee, compared to 2175 supporting the referendum, the election was a clear-cut triumph for SA.

Fire demonstration sparks strong reactions

A dorm room went up in flames outside the Student Union this past Wednesday as part of a safety demonstration geared towards educating students about fires in residence halls.The fire, started only by a small candle flame igniting an empty pizza box, engulfed the mock dorm room in less than three minutes."It showed me that just a little thing can spark a fire, and then the whole room's gone," said Pryanka Sharma, a freshman undecided major.

Chris Bridges, better known as Ludacris, Atlanta's most influential rapper, claims that hip-hop is just a game and that the game itself "ain't nothin' without me."Reflecting on all of his albums, he said in an interview with The Spectrum, "I always strive to be the best."In his new album titled "Release Therapy," Luda attempts to best portray the complexities of human nature and personalities.

Two years ago, UB alumni Chris Vavrina and Steve Vasile decided to end the era of chicken wings and pizza dominating the menus of Buffalo restaurants and brought a new taste to the city - "the garbage plate."Owners of the University Hots restaurants Vavrina and Vasile aimed to mix up the restaurant scene of Buffalo and provide a place for college students who are hungry after an evening of bar hopping.The restaurants - located on Main Street near South Campus and on Elmwood Avenue near Buffalo State College - feature a traditional cuisine of Rochester, N.Y.

Voters pass referendum election

The student activity fee vote ended Thursday night, resulting in a two-year continuance of the $80 mandatory fee; although voter turnout was sufficient and the majority got their way, the undergraduate community should not feel the job is done quite yet.Although students have officially told the Student Association to keep spending their money, a certain level of entitlement should come with this experience.
