Two Buffalo women's tennis players left the Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional tournament with school records under their belt.This past weekend, the ITA tournament had nine locations throughout the country where regional tournaments took place.

Lecture on heart disease kicks off Mini Med series

UB's Mini Medical School, which provides an opportunity for non-medical students to sit in on a variety of topic lectures, kicked off its lecture series this past Tuesday with a speech devoted to cardiology that included symptoms, treatment and prevention of heart disease.The lecture was the first of four scheduled for every Tuesday through Nov.

Born to volley

Lizaiha Garcia was born to be a volleyball player. It's in her genes. Garcia's parents, Howard and Lizzette, are both natives of Puerto Rica; her father was a professional volleyball player on the Puerto Rican national team.

Lang trades his blues guitar for a gospel choir

After half a decade of wrestling with the fact that he can't impress people with his youth anymore, singer/songwriter/guitarist Jonny Lang has changed from a blues wonder-boy into a pseudo-soulful young man.His fourth studio release since breaking through as a teen guitar-throb in 1997, "Turn Around" is almost a 180-degree spin for the artist.The album mixes a little bit of rock with pop and R&B, recycled to sound like the greatest Backstreet Boys CD or the worst Stevie Wonder LP ever.After the debut "Lie to Me" introduced him as a promising young upstart with vast potential, Lang became a highly sought-after collaborator.

Clarke wins two additional awardsSenior forward Andrae Clarke of the men's soccer team picked up additional accolades from his performance in last Friday's 1-0 upset victory over the then 19th nationally ranked Northern Illinois Huskies.Clarke was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week and selected to the Soccer America Team of the Week.

Changing for growth

With class size and physical growth the basis for a new comprehensive UB Master Plan, university departments are now addressing the needs of growing enrollment across campus.At a meeting this past Wednesday, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee addressed plans for graduate school admissions as well as recent renovations made to electronic class registration for undergraduate students.

An overweight pasty white kid in serious need of Proactive sits in the corner of the cafeteria flipping through the pages of Alan Moore's "V for Vendetta" comic book, sipping a juice box as he slides his glasses up the bridge of his greasy nose.Comic book fans are often stereotyped in a way that is less than flattering - as the overweight kid with the acne problem or the nerdy, skinny kid who has never had a girlfriend.Charmaine Wheatley, an artist originally from Nova Scotia who recently published her first comic book titled "Beau Fleuve, The Heart of North America," proves wrong the negative label comic book enthusiasts have acquired.
