This Saturday will be the first chance for many spectators to see freshman wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt under center playing quarterback for the Bulls. Roosevelt and sophomore quarterback Drew Willy will be taking snaps during the annual blue and white scrimmage, where the Bulls' offense will take on their defense.

A celebration of spring: UB hosts first annual Renaissance Faire

Hear ye! Hear ye! If you catch a bit of medieval-sounding language in the next few days, fear not - while it may be a student who's lost their mind preparing for finals, it's most likely related to UB's first annual Renaissance Faire.Scheduled to take place rain or shine, from noon to midnight on Friday, April 27, the Faire will be located on the special events field between Clemens Hall and the Commons."People are more than encouraged to come in costume.

"O.A.R.! O.A.R.!" chanted the spirited crowd Wednesday night, arms waving high, as they waited for the heroes to take the stage.Thousands of fans lined the rain-soaked streets outside of the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center to see the increasingly popular rock/reggae/jam band O.A.R.The concert began just after 8 p.m., as the opening band, Telegraph, played a formidable set.

Baseball comeback quelled against Niagara

In a battle of local rivals, the Niagara baseball team made the cross-town trip to Amherst Audubon field to take on the Buffalo Bulls on Wednesday afternoon.Niagara ultimately came out on top by a score of 6-5, in a back-and-forth battle of local rivals.Buffalo (3-22, 2-7 MAC) and Niagara (10-13) had to fight the unseasonable weather, even encountering some snowflakes during the mid-day contest.

Mr. Earth Day defends the environment

The global campaign against climate change and the devastating results of global warming are not being fought hard enough in the eyes of Denis Hayes, Earth Day Founder and environmental activist.Hayes spoke Tuesday in Lippes Concert Hall, warning about the consequences of ignoring drastic climate change as well as the benefits of current alternative energy sources.A luncheon and discussion on climate neutrality led up to the evening lecture, where Hayes spoke as a featured guest for the "Greener Shade of Blue" campaign, sponsored by UB Green.Hayes started the lecture by sharing his appreciation for being in Buffalo, a city where fellow environmentalist Theodore Roosevelt was sworn in as president.

Engineers without borders

Masamichi Ikeda created the UB chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) in fall 2006 after visiting Tanzania and witnessing the living conditions of its children.The senior civil and structural engineering major described the organization's first undertaking, called the Tanzania School Project.

Green program sheds light on campus environmentalism

In an attempt to encourage students to save energy and think a little more environmentally friendly, the UB Green offices are promoting their light bulb exchange program.This opportunity to "think green" was introduced in the Fall semester of 2006, allowing students at the Ellicott Complex to trade in their usual incandescent light bulbs for brand-new compact fluorescent lamps (CFL's). This program is provided free of charge.

Bulls earn a victory in Toledo

Rain, sleet or snow couldn't stop the Bulls men's baseball team from playing this weekend. While unseasonable weather has cancelled baseball games throughout the northeast, Mother Nature provided just enough relief for the Bulls to travel to Toledo, Ohio for a three game series with the Toledo Rockets.

Bulls backhand Zips

Losing is not something that the women's tennis team is accustomed to. The Bulls (12-2, 4-1 Mid American Conference) went into their match against the Akron Zips determined to put their loss against Western Michigan behind them.Buffalo accomplished this feat by winning 7-0, sweeping all three doubles matches and defeating the Zips in singles matches as well."I think it showed that we have some really good resiliency, and the team really got focused," said head coach Kathy Twist.

I thoroughly enjoy being president of UB. But I do regret that I don't have more time simply to wander campus during the bustle of a typical day.
