Buzby’s first-place finish among top results for UB at MAC Championships

Winning first place, sixth-year Ryan Buzby crossed the finish line in the men’s 5000m with a time of 14:36.50. His teammates, graduate student Alex Hislop and sophomore Luke Stoeffler, finished within milliseconds of each other, at 14:45.43 and 14:45.73, respectively.

UB Women’s Tennis (12-2, 0-0 MAC) faced off against Hillsborough Community College (2-0) and Florida Southern College (2-4) while traveling to Florida this weekend. The Bulls fell 2-5 to the Hillsborough Lady Hawks and won 4-3 to the Florida Southern Mocs. 

Graduate workers’ union elects Joey Sechrist as new head

Joey Sechrist has been elected to serve as the next chapter president of the Graduate Student Employees Union (GSEU), the union that represents UB’s graduate student workers, GSEU announced Friday. Sechrist starts on March 1 and will replace Lawrence Mullen, who has held the position for over three years.

Police data: Crime in on-campus residences by the numbers

Since 2021, a total of 383 police incidents have been reported in UB’s on-campus residences. Governors Complex, which houses about 800 students accounted for 47 of the incidents (12.2% of the total). The Ellicott Complex houses about 3,200 students and accounted for 208 incidents (54% of the total).

University Police (UPD) are asking owners of Kia and Hyundai vehicles to “consider utilizing a steering wheel locking device” and “be vigilant at all times” after three vehicles were damaged in possible theft attempts on South Campus earlier this month, according to a UB Alert email.

Federal AI program places UB at forefront of public policy

The UB Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science and the UB Center for Embodied Autonomy and Robotics are joining the U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC), which has been tasked with improving safety and trustworthiness by more closely analyzing the risks of the most advanced AI.
