Football team begins scrimmaging
???After winning its first Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship, the football team is determined to pick up right where it left off - scrimmaging with full pads in just their fifth practice of the spring.
???"I saw some good things on each side of the ball," said Buffalo head coach Turner Gill in a press release. "Defensively, I saw some guys run around pretty good. Offensively, we ran plays with good execution. We have some positions where we are trying to fill some spots. Overall, I thought it was pretty good."
???Gill is focused on locking down a starting quarterback for next season. With Drew Willy gone next year, the Bulls are looking for someone to fill his shoes. Freshman Zach Maynard is currently the leading candidate and handled most of the snaps in Saturday's scrimmage.
???"Zach [Maynard] has a better understanding of our whole offense right now. He is doing a good job of calling the plays in practice," Gill said. "Jerry [Davis] and Cory [Jorgensen] are a little bit behind from that standpoint, but they have done some good things too throughout the practices. Right now Zach is the lead guy, but we have a long way to go."
???Spring practices run throughout the next few weeks, capping off with the Blue and White Scrimmage on April 18.
