Men's Soccer


The team kicked off the season this past weekend at the Central Connecticut Tournament, coming away with a split. Host Central Connecticut was able to defeat the Bulls in the opening game by a score of 2-1. Geoff Thompson scored for Buffalo. UB goalkeeper Brian Wozniak made six saves.

Buffalo found more success in the second game as they handed Sacred Heart a 2-1 defeat. Thompson once again connected for a goal, but it was veteran Mike Peplinski who put in the game winner on a penalty kick in the 38th minute. Wozniak continued to be the glue that holds these Bulls together, allowing only one goal and making five saves.


Women's Soccer

The women's soccer team opened the season at the Syracuse Orange Classic this past weekend, and came away with two ties.

Buffalo tied Syracuse 2-2 on Friday night, with Erin McGarry and Robin Aparo finding the back of net. Sophomore Anna-Lesa Calvert started in goal for the Bulls making four saves.

UB tied Colgate 1-1 on Sunday. McGarry scored the lone goal for the Bulls (her second of the tournament), and senior Emily Cox was solid in goal with seven saves.

Athletes of the Week

Geoff Thompson of the men's soccer team is the UB Male Athlete of the Week. Thompson scored two goals in two games at the Central Connecticut State Tournament.

Molly Schrantz of the volleyball team is the UB Female Athlete of the Week. She made the UB Hampton Inn-vitational All-Tournament team after posting triple-doubles in two of the team's three games.


Buffalo Bisons

The Bisons, who are the AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, took game one of their International League best-of-five semifinal series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons by a score of 12-4 at Dunn Tire Park on Wednesday night.

Thursday night the Bisons defeated the Red Barons 6-5 in 10 innings to take game two and a 2-0 series lead. The teams will head to Scranton to decide the series.


Women's Volleyball

Buffalo dropped to 2-2 on the season as they fell victim to a sweep at Cleveland State on Tuesday night. Although scores were close all night long, they couldn't get it done in the end of each game falling 30-25, 30-23 and finally 30-23. The Bulls will look to get back on track this weekend when they compete in the Illinois-Chicago Invitational.
