Election date for new SA president is announced

The election for a new Student Association president will take place Oct. 7-9, according to SA Vice President Lyle Selsky and Treasurer Siddhant Chhabria.

SA planned for the vote to be at the end of October, but Selsky said the SA constitution states a reelection must take place within three weeks of the resignation. Former SA President Nick Johns resigned on Sept. 18.

Petitions for those seeking to run will be available on Tuesday in the SA office, 350 Student Union, starting at 9:30 a.m. Candidates must submit their petitions on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

To be eligible to be on the ballot, a contender must be a full-time student, meaning he or she takes at least 12 credits, collect signatures and person numbers from 200 students and have an overall GPA above 2.0 and a GPA above 2.0 in his or her last semester.

Selsky said he knows of at least three candidates who are running, but he said there may be five others at the most.

Chhabria and Selsky want more student involvement in the upcoming election, and they said they plan to increase awareness throughout campus.

"Hopefully, everyone who is running knows what they are getting into and are fully aware of all the work and time it takes," Chhabria said. "We are here to serve the students, so come in with good intentions."
