UB's Turner Battle was named to the 2003 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Team. Battle was voted in by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives, and it was his second award that he has received this post-season to go along with his 2003 All-MAC Honorable Mention.
Battle was the only person in the MAC to receive both recognitions.
Battle, who is a communication major, currently has a 3.45 grade point average.
Mike Sebaaly of the UB Wrestling squad has been named to the 2003 Wrestling Academic All-MAC team. The team was chosen by the Faculty Athletic Representatives of the six MAC schools who sponsor wrestling.
Sebaaly is a history major who holds a 3.48 grade point average, and finished 22-14 in his first season as a member of the UB wrestling team.
UB's Byron McKinney is the MAC men's outdoor track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. McKinney, a senior, broke his own record in the shot put over the weekend at the Alabama Relays, winning the event and qualifying for the NCAA regional competition at the end of the season.
Three UB student-athletes have been named to the MAC 2003 men's and women's indoor track and field Academic All-MAC teams, the league announced Tuesday. UB juniors Faith Thompson and Joel Beatty, and senior Rick Stewart were selected to the squads by a vote of the Faculty Athletic Representatives of the member institutions that sponsor indoor track and field.
