Poll Workers Note Record Student Turnout


With a total of 653 voters between District 105 and District 93, election officials at the Student Union Tuesday night said student voter turnout in the at UB hit a record high this year.

Election inspectors called out numbers as the polls came to a close promptly at 9 p.m. in 145B Student Union.

"These are record numbers," said election inspector Don Davis of District 105. "Best I've ever seen."

District 105, which includes Governors and Hadley, had a total of 197 voters while District 93, which includes all of Ellicott, had a total of 456. A total of 1,467 students had registered to vote in the Student Union.

Election inspector Mary Maiorano of District 93 said she had never seen a more courteous crowd of voters.

"The kids were great," Maiorano said. "A lot of first time voters, so excited, and so polite. It was just great."
