Bush Fits My Priorities

Letter To the Editor

First and foremost, I will vote for Bush for President because I am pro-life. I admire him for taking a stand on this critical issue. Every day, more babies cease to live through abortion than all the American soldiers that have been killed in Iraq since the war began.

Next, I will vote for Bush because I am a woman who believes that "my better or worse half" could only be a man. Of course, this does not mean that I condone or believe in any type of hate crimes against homosexuals. But, neither can I condone homosexual marriages.

I think civil unions with all the advantages of a legal marriage are sufficient for homosexual couples and will give them equal footing with heterosexuals in this world, as far as the benefits of marriage go.

Also, I am a feminist who believes that women should get equal pay for equal work. The glass ceiling of professional advancement should be removed. Women should be able to climb the professional ladder with the same ease as men. They should also have the option of staying at home to raise their children and get paid for their efforts. Feminism is about options.

There are many things about Bush and the Republican Party that I do not agree with, but that is not why I wrote.

I would urge everyone who is eligible to vote with your conscience by prioritizing the issues you feel are most important and then vote accordingly.

God bless America.
