Chemistry department ‘will not hold in-person’ labs

Department to follow ‘distance-learning model’ after governor’s announcement

UB’s chemistry department "will not hold in-person" lab sessions during Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s mandatory “distance-learning model” for SUNY and CUNY schools.

Chemistry Department Chair David Watson wrote in a Thursday email to students that it would follow the “distance-learning” approach and that instructors will provide more information by March 19.

In an email Wednesday, Provost A. Scott Weber wrote that some classes, such as labs and studio classes, may not be possible in an online setting and that UB will make exceptions for these classes.

“We will transition to a distance-learning format for all laboratory courses in the second half of the semester,” Watson’s email read. “Instructors will notify students by March 19th with details on the modified format and how to access course content.”

This is a developing story.
