The independent student publication of The University at Buffalo, since 1950

If I could live in a mythical world, I would choose not Westeros nor Middle Earth, but Ravnica, where I would fight crime with my army of elves.

In the real world, though, I settle for my iPhone recorder, MacBook and blotter reports from University Police. I'm a senior news editor and crime reporter at The Spectrum, though it's not as spectacular as Law and Order: Special Victims Unit would have you believe.

When I'm not aspiring to be Batman, I'm munching on Funyuns while studying for the LSAT and preparing to graduate from UB this winter.

I joined The Spectrum in August 2012, after interning at a direct marketing company where I worked for commission on a campaign advertising car wax. It was a nice little one-summer stint I frequently refer to as my Gas Station Tour of America, but even then, that's over-glamorizing the days I traveled Bronx to Montauk doing car-waxing demonstrations for poor customers who just wanted to fill their gas tanks and bounce.

Really, once you've done something that seemingly hopeless, there's only moving up in the world. Still, I thought I was taking a chance joining The Spectrum, but since my signing on as a staff writer, I've never felt more at home in Buffalo than in our office. It's a lot of work, but the experience and the friendships I've made are nothing but of the highest caliber. They don't judge me for all the times I say 'yo' per hour, and really, what more could I ask for?

As for the important stuff, I enjoy warm weather and cool breezes and salt on the rim of my margaritas. Oh, and Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling are definitely overrated despite the evidence our editor in chief presents. Overruled.
