The independent student publication of The University at Buffalo, since 1950

Sara DiNatale

Senior News Editor

I'm a sophomore English major, an admitted chai tea junkie, and I hail from one of Buffalo's many quaint suburbs.

I actually managed to get lost in the Student Union in my first attempt to find The Spectrum's office. (This was after almost getting lost driving to the university itself, a few days shy of the start of my freshman year.) Despite my horrible sense of direction, I wound up settling in as a staff writer for the beginning of the fall 2011 semester. Midway through my first semester on staff I was thrilled to be moved up to Assistant News Editor - a position I carried out through the spring semester.

I'm an aspiring journalist, an avid writer, and a bagging artist. But I have put my Target red and khaki to the side (except for during breaks) as I excitedly pursue this year as a Senior News Editor.

The Spectrum defined my freshman year, and I know it will continue to be the most vital part of my undergraduate career. It's now impossible for me to imagine a college life that doesn't include spending hours in the office, or tracking down a source for an article.

I've learned two things from my first year of college: 1. Taking 20 credits is a horrible idea, even if you do manage a solid GPA, and 2. Do what you love, and everything else will fall into place.
