Rash of vehicle break-ins strikes North Campus

The University Police Department (UPD) has issued a warning that advised students to lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of view.

Numerous vehicle break-ins have been reported on North Campus and in neighboring areas, six of which were reported in the week of Jan. 15, the first week of the semester, alone.

Items ranging from loose change to GPS systems have been stolen from vehicles.

UPD has made one arrest, but they believe that there are more suspects involved.

In a press release, Chief of University Police Gerald Schoenle informed students that, "these are totally preventable crimes." UPD stresses it is essential that students do not leave valuable belongings in plain view. Even leaving GPS mounts up on windows gives thieves a reason to believe they will find belongings of worth.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to the UPD at 645-2222.
