Gill makes changes to coaching staff

???After Buffalo's greatest football season in the university's history, head coach Turner Gill is continuing to tune his coaching staff with the hopes of making another championship run.

???On Friday, Gill announced two new additions to the Bulls' defensive coaching staff, in addition to several changes in job duties.

???Robert Wimberly, who has recently coached at Liberty University, will now coach Buffalo's linebackers. Jarod Dodson, a former coach from the University of South Dakota, will coach Buffalo's cornerbacks.

???The changes complete Gill's defensive staff. On Jan. 16, Gill announced that Fred Reed would take over defensive coordinator duties in addition to coaching Buffalo's safeties. He also moved Brian Mohnsen to defensive line coach after coaching Buffalo's defensive ends last season.

???"Brian has done a very nice job with our players the last three years," Gill said, in a press release. "He was the best guy for our program to handle our defensive line."

???In addition to Gill's defensive changes, the head coach announced that Buffalo quarterback coach Danny Barrett will become the Bulls' offensive coordinator in 2009.

???"By virtue of the excellent job that [Barrett] has done in the two years on our staff, he is ready to lead our offense forward in competing for [Mid-American Conference] Championships in the future," Gill said.

???Wimberly spent the past five seasons at Liberty University, where he was the Director of High School Relations. In his work with the linebacking corps, several team records were set, including fewest points allowed, fewest average total offensive yards, and shutouts.

???"His outstanding job of coaching linebackers the past five years, combined with him being a phenomenal communicator, is why Coach Wimberly is the right person for our staff," Gill said.

???Dodson, on the other hand, is joining the Bulls after serving as defensive coordinator at South Dakota in 2008. It was his fifth year on the Coyote's staff.

???In his first and only year as South Dakota's defensive coordinator, Dodson helped form one of the best units in NCAA Division I FCS and the Great West Conference.

???"Coach Dodson's interpersonal skills and experience as both a secondary coach and defensive coordinator made him the perfect fit for our defensive staff," Gill said.???

Buffalo's coaching staff is now complete as National Signing Day occurs. Gill, in addition to his coaching staff, are now together as they begin to transition recruits from high school to collegiate life.
