Republicans win majority of local elections


Republican Michael Ranzenhofer won the race for the State Senate's 61st district, beating former boxer Joe Mesi with 54 percent of the Erie County votes.

Another Republican victory was had in the race for a seat in the House of Representatives to the 26th Congressional District, where Christopher Lee defeated Democrat Alice Kryzan with 55 percent of the vote.

Republican James Hayes was victorious in the fight for the 148th District State Assembly position, surpassing Democrat Jerome Schad, with 60 percent of the vote.

Democrat Frank Sedita won 66 percent of the vote for the Erie County District Attorney position.

Republican John Michalek won a second 14-year term on the District 8 Supreme Court, while Democrat Tracey Bannister won the other seat up for grabs, with 48 percent and 30 percent of the vote, respectively.
