Men's swim team falls to St. Bonaventure

The Bulls dropped a 154-83 decision to St. Bonaventure on Saturday in their last regular season match-up this year.

In the loss to the Bonnies, Buffalo (3-4 overall, 1-3 Mid-American Conference) won four events outright. UB's Mark Sy took home two victories to lead the team. Sy won the 1,000-yard freestyle, with a time of 9:48.37, and his time of 1:54.85 was good for first in the 200-yard butterfly.

The Bulls' other victors were Luke Adams and Jon Yarger, who won the 200-yard backstroke and the 500-yard freestyle, respectively.

Adams scored his victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.58, and Yarger's victory in the 500-yard freestyle was won with a time of 4:50.89.

St. Bonaventure won the other seven events in the meet including both relay races, the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle, the 200-yard individual medley, the 200-yard breaststroke and the one-meter and three meter diving events.

Before the match, Buffalo honored its graduating seniors: Sy, Yarger, Fotis Bardis, Dustin Hui, Erik Schwarz, Geoff Wells and Evan McCormack.

"This is one of the most improved groups of swimmers to come into this program," stated Bulls' head coach Budd Termin in a press release. "And with a 3.014 cumulative grade point average, this group has shown quality all through their careers."

This was the Bulls' final regular season meet. The men will be inactive for three weeks as they prepare for the ECAC championships, which start Friday, Feb. 25. After that, they will go on to the Mid-American Conference tournament, set to begin in March.
