President Bush's Social Security plan represents another effort to benefit wealthy corporations at the expense of the American people. When individuals invest their Social Security funds, corporations will gain from the tremendous increase in investments. Meanwhile, Americans hoping for retirement security will have to rely on spending decisions of huge corporations, in which they will have no representation. Furthermore, many lack the knowledge and experience required to invest their Social Security funds skillfully.
The purpose of Social Security is to guarantee the sustenance of older Americans. Allowing citizens to gamble away this money in the stock market undermines Social Security and is a disgraceful disservice to hard-working Americans. President Bush's plan will place citizens' retirement funds in the hands of corporate CEOs. Economic recession or corporate scandal will leave millions without retirement security. Do you want your social security benefits in the hands of corporate CEOs?
