"You Don't Even Blink, Do You?"

So, the first ever Spectrum Arts and Life survey is complete and my, what fun it was. A note to anyone who ever plans on compiling anything: Use computers, because personally tabulating these results during Monday Night Football and the ALCS was about as easy as pulling your own spine out.

The first, and foremost conclusion, to our survey is that the UB public needs to get some culture. Books and theater were areas with as many blanks as answers, while the "Favorite Simpson" category was answered by almost everyone. Culturally relevant, right?

Your answers were definitely interesting. Apparently, you'd love to catch a comedy starring Kevin Spacey and Uma Thurman before heading off to a Fall Fest featuring Taking Back Sunday, Britney Spears and Dave Matthews Band. Who knew?

You are voting for Senator Kerry over President Bush by a remarkable margin. Even more worthy of note is that more people elected not to vote than to vote for the Nader/Camejo campaign. This may have a large correlation with the absence of voters for the "Jam/Improv" category, but I don't want to assume anything.

Maybe everyone came to terms with reality and decided not to back a band of white supremacists, but what's with not one single vote for Slayer in the "Favorite Hardcore/Metal Act?" This was almost as odd as FDR edging out Christ in the "Favorite Historical Figure" category.

Regardless, on behalf of the Spectrum, I wanted to thank every single person who took part in this survey. We are simply trying to make a better newspaper each and every time out, and even though 50 of you received free dinner and a movie out of the deal, we truly appreciate your time.

And now the results.
