Women's Swimming

The women's swim team had a promising opening meet of the year against Siena, as they won by a dominating score of 207-74. Buffalo had a few multi-event winners, including Kahla Walkinshaw and Jennifer Brankovsky who each won three events, and Julie Marcotte who won all of the breaststroke races.

Walkinshaw scored victories in both distance freestyle races: the 500-meter race and the 1,000-meter race. She was also victorious in the 200-meter butterfly race.

Brankovsky's victories were a little more scattered as the senior won the 200-meter freestyle, the 200-meter backstroke and the 100-meter butterfly.

Other winners for the Bulls included Tracy Hoover, Kimberly LaHaye, Frances Stephenson, and the 200-meter medley relay team of Cassondra Oliveri, Danielle Gervais, Jackie English, and Andrea Scharf.

Men's Basketball

For the first time since joining the Mid-American Conference in 1998, the Buffalo Bulls have been selected to win the MAC-East division by a number of major publications. The Bulls were selected over Kent State and Miami (Ohio), both of whom the Bulls defeated during the 2003-2004 season, a season in which the Bulls experienced the longest winning streak the team has ever had since rejoining Division I competition.

UB received this selection from the MAC News Media Association, as well as many college basketball preview magazines such as Athlon Sports, Sporting News, Lindy's, and Street and Smith's.

The Bulls open their season on Nov. 20 in East Hartford against the defending National Champion UConn Huskies.
