Athletes of the Week

The University at Buffalo named its male and female athletes of the week. Receiving the honors this week were James Evans of the football team and Jenny Dannecker of the Women's soccer team.

James Evans had the best game of his career last week against Miami of Ohio as he recorded eight tackles, each of which was solo. In addition, the true freshman broke up two passes, forced a fumble and recorded his first career sack in the losing effort for the Bulls.

Entertaining the possibility of receiving a playoff berth, the UB women's soccer team has found a bright spot in Jenny Dannecker. The senior midfielder recorded a hat trick in the Bulls' 5-2 victory over Toledo last Friday. Dannecker is the first Buffalo soccer player to record a hat trick since Oct. 3, 2003.

Cross Country

Jenny Koeppel received MAC runner of the week honors for the fourth time this season following her finish in the Penn State National Meet. She is the only athlete in the conference to receive the honor this many times this year. Koeppel led all MAC runners in the Penn State National Meet, finishing 20th overall with a time of 21:26 on the six-kilometer course.

So far this season, Koeppel has scored three first-place finishes and one second-place finish. Additionally, she has been the Bulls' top runner in every race this season. UB's next race will be Oct. 30, at Toledo for the MAC championships.
