Buffalo Loses Big Four Finale

The women's soccer team was denied once again on the road this weekend, losing Friday in a non-conference match to the Niagara Purple Eagles by a score of 3-1.

On a positive note, the Bulls (3-9-0 overall, 2-4 Mid-American Conference) broke their goal-less streak of almost three whole games (3:20.45) when freshman Heidi Griffiths capitalized on a Jenny Dannecker assist in the 88th minute of regulation.

With the assist, Dannecker extended her points total on the season to eight, which leads the Bulls.

"Jenny is stepping up as one of the senior leaders on the team," said Bulls' coach Jean Tassy. "She's scoring and having a good time playing the game."

However, both Dannecker and the rest of the Buffalo squad were outdone by Niagara's duo of Brittanys.

The star of the game was freshman striker Brittany Bisnott, who assisted junior forward Brittany Youngblood in the 11th minute for her fifth goal of the season.

Bisnott herself touched twine twice in the game -- her first goal came in the 23rd minute of action, as she outran two Buffalo defenders and fired the ball past the outstretched arms of UB goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert. This goal was her second straight game winner, her tenth on the season and fourth in the last two games for Niagara (6-3-0).

"We're working hard and doing all the right things, but it's tough when you don't see the fruits of your labor," said Coach Tassy.

Buffalo inched closer with Griffiths' goal, but the Purple Eagles put the game on ice with Bisnott's second goal, a dribbler to the left of Calvert.

The Bulls finished their Big Four competition (Niagara, St. Bonaventure, Canisius, and UB) with a mark of 1-2, having lost 4-0 to the Bonnies on Aug. 27 by a score of 4-0, and beating Canisius on Sept. 28 by the same margin.

"We're struggling to put the ball in the back of the net," said Coach Tassy. "That's really the most important thing you need to do if you want to win games on the road."
