Cross Country

UB cross-country runner Jenny Koeppel was named the Mid-American Conference runner of the week for the third consecutive week this season. The senior recorded a seventh place finish at last weekend's Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. finishing the 6K race in a time of 20:59. Koeppel improved her time by 40 seconds to lead the Bulls to a 6th place finish in a field of 29 teams that featured five teams currently ranked in the top 30 in the nation, according to the FinishLynx Women's Top 30 Poll.


Athletes of the Week

Dan McKenna and Andreea Novaceanu were named as the University at Buffalo's male and female athletes of the week for last week.

McKenna, a native of Liverpool, N.Y., led the men's cross country team to a 16th place finish out of 24 teams on Saturday at the Paul Short Invitational. He was the Bulls' top racer, finishing 77th out of 163 competitors. McKenna ran a personal-best time of 25:39.48 in the 8K race. His previous personal best in an 8K was at the same invitational last year.

Andreea Novaceanu, a freshman on the women's tennis team, led the Bulls in a successful showing at the Bowling Green Invitational Tennis Tournament last weekend in Bowling Green, Ohio. She won both of UB's titles at the tournament. Novaceanu captured one title in singles play with the other title coming in doubles play with fellow classmate Tina Jacob. Novaceanu's singles victory came against Bowling Green's Susie Schoenberger in three sets, and her doubles victory was against BGU's Cam Benjamin and Ashley Jakupcin.
