McKnight takes gold at Junior Pan-Ams
Buffalo wrestler Mark McKnight won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling and a bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Junior Pan-American Games held in Maracabio City, Venezuela on July 26.
Coming off of a freshman season with a 34-8 record for the Bulls, McKnight went 4-0 in the 121-pound (55 kilos) weight bracket in the freestyle portion of the games, beating competitors from both Canada and Venezuela.
In Greco-Roman wrestling, McKnight won his opening round match against his competitor from Argentina 10-0, but fell in the semi-finals to the eventual gold-medal winner Jaciel Rodriguez of Venezuela. McKnight then rebounded with a 4-2 overtime victory to capture the bronze medal.
