SBI Accounting Fee Hike Not Related to SA Action

Letter To the Editor

This is in response to the article "SA Reduces Allocation to Sub-Board by $70,000" in the Sept. 10 issue. Graduate Student Association President Xun Liu stated that his organization's accounting fees were being hiked partly due to the impact of the $70,000 being redirected. This assumption is not true. The accounting fees that are assessed to clients of our accounting service are based on the actual accounting activity that is associated with that service. Essentially, it is a fee for service only. This fee does not have any relationship to the allocation fee, which the student governments give to Sub-Board to subsidize student services and programs such as Anti-Rape Task Force, Generation Magazine, WRUB, Off-Campus Housing, Group Legal Services and others. The fees are based solely on the costs of our accounting operation and any and all changes (increase or decrease) to that fee are reflected by actual accounting activity generated by our accounting clients.
