Bulls Lose in Two-Overtime Thriller

With a minute and a half remaining in the second overtime, Syracuse University (2-0-0) scored the game-winning goal and handed the UB women's soccer team a 1-0 loss in its non-conference home opener on Sunday afternoon at RAC Field.

"I think playing Syracuse gave us an opportunity to look at our attack as well as our defense," said Head coach Jean Tassy. "I think we had better ball movement than we had against Bonaventure."

Syracuse's Jenna Richter slipped the game winner by UB goalie Anna-Lesa Calvet in the 108th minute to hand Buffalo (0-2-0) its first loss in a home opener since 1993.

"We have a young team with limited returners," said Coach Jean Tassy. "We're making positive progression that will hopefully continue into the MAC."

The young and inexperienced Bulls had an opportunity to put the game away but failed to score in the 103rd minute when Erica Mincher had a clear shot deflected off the Syracuse goalie.

"I know we're young, and it's going to take some time and I think we have to go along," Tassy said.

Veteran UB goalie Anna-Lesa Calvert recorded eight saves in the loss for the Bulls.

The Bulls will look to score their first victory when they return to action on Friday night against Fairleigh Dickinson at the Arizona Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.
