UB Track and Field

Several UB athletes took part in the Penn Relays, one of the nation's top track meets, this weekend.

The Bulls' Jenny Koeppel broke the UB record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:52.83. Her time was good enough for sixth-place out of 40 runners. Koeppel's time broke Judith Novak's time of 16:56.54 and solidified Koeppel's spot in the NCAA Eastern Regional meet in Gainesville, FL.

The Bulls also had an outstanding performance from the sprint-medley team of Stacy Downer, Patrice Coney, Celestine Coney and Allison Laske, who finished sixth out of 44 teams. The team finished in 3:54.97, 13 seconds out of first-place.

For the men, Reggie Rucker place third in the long jump with a jump of 23 feet 9 inches.

Softball

The UB softball team lost two of three games to the Western Michigan Broncos over the weekend at home, dropping their record to 18-21 overall and 6-8 in the Mid-American Conference.

In Saturday's doubleheader, UB fell in the first game 2-0 but rebounded to take the second game 2-1.

Breanne Nasti sent Sunday's game to extra innings when she hit a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score, but Buffalo eventually fell by a final score of 4-2 in eight innings.
