UB Wrestling
UB wrestling coach Jim Beichner announced Tuesday that the Bulls have signed two more wrestlers for next season. Mark Throckmorton and Nate Rock have signed letters of intent to wrestle for Beichner next season.
Throckmorton, who should wrestle at the 133-pound weight class for UB, placed third in the 2004 Pennsylvania State High School AAA Championships this past season and was listed as one of Intermat.com's Top 200 recruits his age.
Rock went 29-2 as a senior and placed second at the Pennsylvania AAA Championships in the 171-pound weight class. He will wrestle 174 for the Bulls.
The two join Mickey Moran and Scott Rendos in the 2004 freshman class. .
UB Crew
The Bulls crew team entered five boats in the Knecht Cup in Camden, N.J. this weekend. UB's two varsity eight entries took part in the Grand Final, while the varsity four squad took part in the Petite Final.
The Bulls first varsity-eight team placed fourth out of 22 teams with a 7:18.5 finish, finishing behind Massachusetts, Boston College and Fordham.
The second varsity-eight placed a season best second out of 18 teams. They navigated the course in a time of 7:28.5, three seconds behind Kansas, who finished in 7:25.7.
The varsity-four squad finished the consolation round in sixth place, with a time of 8:22.
The team will host the inaugural Harvey Cup, named for Nan Harvey, former UB Athletics athlete, coach and administrator, on April 25 in Tonawanda Creek.
