UB Football

The UB football team held its annual Blue - White Scrimmage Saturday at Ralph Wilson Stadium, with the offense edging the defense by a score of 44-16.

The ground game is expected to be the Bulls strength next season and a number of backs had outstanding performances. Sophomore Steven King led all Bulls with 10 carries for 41 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, while Dave Dawson was right behind him with 41 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown. Jared Patterson ran for 36 yards and also added a touchdown.

Through the air, sophomore quarterback Stewart Sampsel stole the spotlight from incumbents Randall Secky and P.J. Piskorik, as he was 4-10 for 60 yards and two touchdowns. Secky went 2-4 with 27 yards, while Piskorik went 3-5 with nine yards.

Spectrum Athlete of the Week

Laura Olson, of the women's track team, is this week's Spectrum Athlete of the Week. Olson set a new school and UB Stadium record in the pole vault at the UB Open over the weekend.

Her vault of 13-5.5 feet beat her previous mark by nearly four inches and it also broke the UB record by a foot. She also took the event at last weekend's Bison Outdoor Classic with a jump of 12-9.50 feet.

Olson has already qualified for the NCAA's East Regionals, which will be held May 28-29, an she will look to better her her records at next weekend's Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
