Borgese Named Assembly Speaker

A unanimous vote by 10 members Monday named Joseph Borgese the speaker of the Student Association Assembly for the 2004-05 school year.

Borgese, the only candidate nominated, will begin his one-year term on the first of next month. This year, sophomore business major Borgese served as the Assembly's secretary.

Borgese's past SA experience includes a year as transportation assistant and another as the assistant director of club services. The responsibilities of his new post as the head of half of the legislative branch of the SA is much more demanding than any previous position he's held, but it's a task the junior management major said he is ready to tackle.

"The Assembly is a great way to get involved with the Student Association," Borgese said. "I'm happy to accept the position of speaker."

According to current Assembly speaker Adam Sherlip, the level of significance that the Assembly has had in SA as a whole has increased within the past year, and Borgese hopes that it will continue to increase.

"I encourage UB students to join the assembly next year," said newly elected Borgese to the 10 current Assembly members.

At the end of the short meeting, Sherlip reflected on his two semesters as the leader of the group.

"It has been a fun and interesting year," Sherlip said. "I thank everyone who has helped out."
