Teach-in Educational and Motivational

I am writing in response to the article "Students Learn Basics of Labor Activism at Teach-in" in the March 8 issue of The Spectrum.

I attended the teach-in last Saturday, and I found it very educational and motivational - UB Students Against Sweatshops put together a very nice program. I found particularly helpful the sections on campaign construction and management. I was amazed how well the group of program attendees came together by the end of the eight-hour session.

The biggest testament to this was that after spending the better part of a day together, around 10 of the attendees ended up going to Dr. Bird's Rasta-rant for dinner. I had only been to two of UBSAS's weekly meetings before this event, but this time I learned so much about their campaign to have UB sign-on with the Workers Rights Consortium.

I cleared my schedule for the rest of the semester on Monday nights so I can make their 5:30 p.m. meetings in the NYPIRG office of the commons. I spent most of my fall semester this year complaining about all of the student apathy that exists at UB, so it was a breath of fresh air to see an organized group trying to make a difference in the world.
