Bulls Attempt to get off the Schnide in Georgetown

UB baseball team opened its season down south last weekend against the Georgetown Hoyas with little success.

The Hoyas hammered Buffalo over the four-game series, outscoring Buffalo 35-6 in total.

After that wretched start, UB will head to the University of Maryland to try to get their season back on track.

The Terrapins are struggling mightily themselves, coming into the series with a record of 1-6.

Maryland's sole victory came when they defeated Lipscomb University 10-6 Sunday.

Ben Pfinsgraff earned the win with an outstanding pitching performance for the Terps and will likely get a lot of time on the mound against UB. Pfinsgraff struck out six-straight batters in the fourth inning and had eight strikeouts by the end of the day to snatch Maryland's first victory.

Pfinsgraff had a great day, but the bats came out to support him as the offense had a pretty good day too, scoring 10 runs off 13 hits.

In the ninth inning, Kevin Hart hit an RBI triple to right center followed by another RBI single to right field from Jordan Wilson.

It's still early enough for UB to put a stop to their losing streak and pick up some wins early in their season.

The Bulls had trouble pitching over the weekend, giving up seven and eight runs on Saturday and ten in each of the two games on Sunday. If they have any chance of winning they will have to hold the Terps to fewer than the average of 8.5 runs they gave up at Georgetown.

Buffalo's Joe Mihalics went 4-for-9 over the weekend, scoring one run and one RBI. A repeat performance will be necessary for Buffalo.

Also hot for UB was Andrew Wengert, who hit .333 over the weekend and scored two runs.

The Bulls are scheduled to play the Terps at 3 p.m. Friday at Shipley Field in College Park, Md. Saturday and Sunday's games are both at 1 p.m.
